【舊報】孩子們，閱讀吧！

炎炎夏日，學生們的暑假，漫漫時光中有升學考，有補習，但也有休息的閒暇。這時候，各級學校的孩子們，做什麼呢？
就談談閱讀吧！不是面對電腦、網路的那一種，手持一本一本書的傳統閱讀，在許多國家，從小學生的時代開始，暑假是一個重要的學習時光。
一個日本小學生，在一個暑假，可能要借閱二十本書，或在書店買回許多書。先從繪本，兒童讀物，比較易懂的文學書、傳記、歷史故事，和書交朋友。
書會幫助人們發現藏在自己心裡的光。從小孩子開始，這樣的探詢會對一個人的成長有所助益，在知識與教養兩方面充實，豐富人生、善美與真實的心性，這麼一點一滴的累積，就是教育啊！
台灣的孩子，在兒童時期，父母也會買中國唐詩宋詞的書給小小的心靈認識詩詞。就像「學琴的孩子不會變壞！」那種期許。但過了兒童時期，都因為學校的考試而排除掉了。許多父母以考試之用排斥了閱讀的無用之用。
一個歐洲的中學生，也許在一個暑假，就涉獵古典文學和現代文學許多作家的作品。莎士比亞、歌德、但丁、易卜生、普希金、托爾斯泰、莫泊桑……養成生活中的閱讀習慣後，一直到唸大學，出社會，人生的行囊裡不會沒有書相伴的。
每一個國家的人民都應該從自己國度的文學作品形塑國民性，也從世界不同國家的文學作品豐富心靈。日本的紙幣有夏目漱石、桶口一葉這兩位男、女作家，另外的福澤諭吉、野口英治雖然分別是社會領域、醫學領域的人物，也都有著作可閱讀。
紙鈔只見孫文、蔣介石，台灣的文明性格可想而知，政治紛亂中，您的孩子在暑假中可有閱讀？又，您的孩子知道什麼台灣作家？什麼台灣文學作品？世界的作家和世界的文學呢？
